Cheap animal feeds, such as soy and corn, along with intensive animal farming methods and government subsidies, have allowed the corporations of the livestock industry to become frighteningly huge and powerful.
The industry now spends hundreds of millions of pounds a year manipulating us with advertising, particularly targeting children, while expanding to all corners of the globe. McDonald’s now has over 31,000 outlets worldwide (1) and Tyson, the world’s largest meat processing company and supplier of KFC, has aggressive plans to expand in to China, Brazil, India and other developing markets; using their model of cruel intensive farming and cheap animal feeds to produce low cost fast foods.

The result of all this is that people around the globe, even those who have traditionally eaten very little or no meat, are eating more and more animal products, despite the fact that there is strong evidence that they cause heart disease, cancer and other diseases (2). Whilst we have the health service, medicine and funds to treat people with these illnesses, those in poorer nations do not.

Studies show that diets rich in fruit, vegetables and whole grains, and low in animal fats keep us healthy and disease-free. In particular, your risk of dying from one of the biggest killers - heart disease and cancer - is significantly reduced on a plant based diet.
When you consume meat and dairy products, you not only put yourself at risk of serious disease, you also put money in the pockets of the meat corporations to allow them to push their products on to others. Look after your health and the health of others by switching to a plant based diet.
